Natural Diamonds

As a gemologist and designer, I believe a natural diamond is much more than a gem: it is a poem carved by time. Each stone holds in its sparkle the memory of millions of years, a light that seems to tell stories and promises. In my atelier I seek to enhance that poetry in jewels that accompany life’s most important moments.

What is a natural diamond? A natural diamond is a precious stone formed deep within the Earth over long geological processes. It is composed of crystallized carbon in an extremely hard, brilliant structure whose beauty reveals itself as light passes through and reflects within its internal geometry.

The 4Cs: how to understand and choose your diamond

Cut: It is not just the shape; it is the precision with which the facets have been carved to work the light. A good cut maximizes brilliance, fire (color flashes) and scintillation (sparkle). Even a diamond with good color and clarity can lose its soul if the cut is poor.

Color: It refers to the presence of tones in the stone; the usual scale runs from colorless to progressively warmer tones. The most colorless stones often appear purer and brighter, however a colorless stone may appear colored depending on the choice of your design. Some settings favor slightly warm tones for a classic, warmer look.

Clarity: It Indicates the presence of small internal or external inclusions or imperfections. Many of these marks are invisible to the naked eye and do not diminish the stone’s beauty. Clarity affects transparency and how light travels within the diamond.

Carat: It measures the weight of the gem and thus its perceived size. Higher weight usually yields greater visual impact, but the balance of cut, color and clarity determines how the stone truly appears in a jewel.

Choosing a diamond is finding the right balance among these four variables according to your taste and the piece you imagine. I can accompany you to evaluate each C and select the diamond that tells your story.
